Those who practice self-empowering rituals on a daily basis may be more likely to experience higher levels of success in their day-to-day lives. One of the most important times of the day to establish such rituals is first thing in the morning, seeing as the attitudes and actions you engage in early on will likely set the mood for the rest of your day. The recognition of one’s power in the formation of his or her reality through changes in thought and action will result in an overall better quality of life – and the realization of such ability can come with something as seemingly simple as altering your morning routine. Listed below are five ways in which slightly adjusting your routine can completely alter the remainder of your day.
- Express gratitude.
Expressing gratitude on a daily basis has repeatedly been shown to improve one’s overall outlook on life. In many instances, we overlook the little things we have to be grateful for in order to dwell on and stress out about temporary issues that we allow to consume us. Rather than waking up and immediately focusing on all of the daunting tasks ahead, try waking up and writing down 10 things you have to be grateful for. Do this both in the morning and at night for the most impact, and keep gratitude in mind throughout the day.
- Outline your most important daily tasks and goals.
Before you go to bed each night, make a list of your necessary tasks and goals for the following day. Outlining what you need to get accomplished will help you to prioritize and budget time accordingly, and will also work to help you feel less overwhelmed. If it helps, make a checklist, and mark off each task as you accomplish it.
- Wake up earlier.
Waking up just an hour earlier can greatly help you to fit more into the day, or to face the day with much more preparedness and enthusiasm. Take some time in the morning to develop a ritual that works for you, rather than rushing around frantically until you finally make it out the door. Wake up slowly, stretch, smile, and greet the day with gratitude. You have woken up, healthy and able, for one more day – a day of boundless opportunity and potential! Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and read the comics before showering. Practice 15 minutes of meditation in your backyard as you listen to the birds. No matter what routine you settle into, waking up earlier will allow you ample time to face the day with attentiveness and appreciation.
Stretching soon after wakening will help to wake up your body as well as your mind. Stretching will help you to start the day off calm and relaxed, rather than frantically. As you stretch, listen to calming music, or step outside and stretch to the soft natural sounds of wind blowing and birds chirping.
- Listen to uplifting music.
Listening to relaxing and uplifting music as you go about your morning routine will help to calm your mind and enhance your mood. Listen to music as you write your gratitude list, plan out your daily tasks and goals, and stretch – create a soundtrack for your new and improved morning ritual! Before long, you will likely begin to notice a dramatic shift in the ease and happiness with which you move throughout the remainder of your day.
Yours in good health,
